The Elbe-Weser moorland region, consisting of the districts of Cuxhaven, Rotenburg (Wümme), Osterholz and Stade, would like to enhance its tourism appeal with an innovative digital experience. Together with Saint Elmo's Tourism, we took over the conception phase. Our central task was to develop a viable rough concept that would serve as the basis for a future implementation project.
To do this, we first carried out a comprehensive market analysis and an inventory analysis to review existing digital offerings and tourism data. An essential step was the location analysis, which we carried out in teams of two in an extensive two-day on-site visit to experience the region from the guests' perspective. The findings from these analyses and the workshops with the project managers formed the basis for our strategic concept.
The rough concept we developed proposes a progressive web app (PWA) as a central guide that makes multimedia content such as audio stories, videos and augmented reality (AR) elements accessible without downloading an app. A key component was the integration of AI-controlled personas as digital travel companions. The aim of the project was to create a future-proof concept that takes into account the needs of different target groups and ties in with existing tourism structures.
